“Yin Yoga is a great form of yoga because it allows you to hold poses and to perhaps sit with a little bit of discomfort, so it could actually help us foster some resilience because many of us are sitting with discomfort right now,” she said.
According to the National Library of Medicine, medical yoga therapy is used to help prevent and aid in various medical conditions.
“Beyond the physical elements of yoga, which are important and effective for strengthening the body, medical yoga also incorporates appropriate breathing techniques, mindfulness, and meditation in order to achieve the maximum benefits,” NLM reports.
Rather than prescribing medication, many doctors are turning to more alternative methods – and yoga is at the top of the list.
The study goes on to report that yoga also offers many mental benefits, which include helping to decrease anxiety, stress, and depression.

Stress can also trigger migraine and tension headaches. Research shows that people who practice yoga have fewer and less intense headaches, and consume less pills than people who don’t.
Dr. Gautam Sharma, co-author of the study and a professor of cardiology at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, suggests that if you suffer from migraines, you should discuss yoga as part of your treatment with your physician.
And if you choose to practice yoga, he explains, “you should learn it with a qualified yoga therapist under the supervision of a physician.”
